Rashmalai: The sweetest pride of Cumilla

Cumilla is proudly known for its Rasmalai. It’s a dessert of South Asian origin. Rasmalai is made from fresh, unripe curd cheese soaked in flavored cream or milk. The making of Rasmalai started in the Cumilla region around 1900.

Matree Bhandar

It’s the best and oldest producer of the tastiest “Rashmalai”. Khanindra Sen and Manira Sen started Martee Bhander in 1930. After 1940, It was developed by the late freedom fighter Shankar Sengupta. He was the son of Khaninra Sen. At present Khaninra Sen’s son runs the business. There is only one shop in the Matree Bhander. If you go to Cumilla don’t miss going to Matree Bhander. The original Matree Bhandar is located at Manoharpur.

Porabari & Jal Yoga

Apart from the ‘Matree Bhandar’, two shops are most famous to produce the delicious and traditional heritage Rasmalai. Those are Porabari & Jal Yoga. The Jal Yoga shop was established at Kandirpar. Once it was known MuhuriBabu’s shop. It was established by Joy Chandra Sen.

Para Bhander

Rasmalai is an extremely delicious confectionery in Cumilla’s Bhagaboti Para Bhander. It is one among the foremost ancient and greatest producers of the Rasmalai in taste.

Shital Bhander

Another famous shop for Rashmalai is Shital Bhander. The taste of Rashmalai in this shop is extra-ordinary.

How to make

At first, milk was collected from different cowherds. The milk is then fired into the oven at a certain temperature. After burning for at least two hours, the milk into a thick liquid like yeast. The yeast is then cut and made into small granulated sweets. Later it is turned into Rasmalai through juice.
